Biography: Lloyd George Richards was born on June 29, 1919 in Toronto, Canada. He studied law at Wayne University, and he served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He taught in the actor training program at New York University. He was the head of the National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. He was dean of the Yale School of Drama and artistic director of the Yale Repertory Theater in the 1980s. He married dancer Barbara Davenport, with whom he had his sons Scott and Thomas.
