Biography: Van Alexander was born Alexander Van Vliet Feldman on May 2, 1915 in New York City. He studied music at Columbia University. He sold arrangements to Chick Webb in the mid-1930s. He worked extensively as a composer, arranger and conductor for film scores in the 1940s. He formed his own orchestra that played in theatres and on radio. He married Beth Baremore, with whom he had two children.

Film/TV Credits: Film credits include: "I Saw What You Did," "Strait-Jacket," "The Private Lives of Adam and Eve," "Girls Town," "Baby Face Nelson," "13 Frightened Girls," and "Tarzan and the Valley of Gold." Television credits include: "Bewitched," "I Dream of Jeannie," "Hazel," "The Donna Reed Show," "Dennis the Menace,' "The Dean Martin Show," and "The Farmer's Daughter."

Other Awards: Received the Henry Mancini Award for Lifetime achievement from ASCAP.
