ABOUT THIS THEATRE

Description
After the Winter Garden burned down in March of 1867, Edwin Booth built his dream theatre--but the considerable costs led him to declare bankruptcy within five years. In 1873, he relinquished control of the theatre. None of his successors could make it work either, and it closed as a theatre in 1883. It was converted into McCreery & Co. department store. In 1965, the building was torn down.
