American Music Hall

260 West 42nd Street, New York, NY
Seats (approximate): 2065

Charles C. Haight, architect. One of the first theatres to open in the "new" theatre district on 42nd Street. Managed by T. Henry French from 1893 to 1897. Various managers, including William Morris (founder of the talent agency), tried to make a success of a theatre handicapped by its "remote" Eighth Avenue location. By 1929, it was a burlesque house--until a fire destroyed the interior on December 8, 1930. Records indicate it was razed in 1932, but it may have hosted productions through the 1930s.

Built: 1893    Closed: 1930    Demolished: 1932
