ABOUT THIS THEATRE

Description

The Springfield presenter of touring Broadway, Sangamon Auditorium is located on the campus of the University of Illinois Springfield.  Home to the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Springfield Ballet Company, it is the only auditorium and presenting organization of its kind and size in the Springfield area, with a seating capacity of 2,018.  

Sangamon Auditorium presents a Performing Arts Season each year consisting of four unique series: Broadway, Visiting Artist, Family, and the uniquely-named “Kitchen Sink” series, consisting of intimate performances presented in the 350-seat Studio Theatre just below Sangamon Auditorium.  The Auditorium also presents a K-12 matinee series and facilitates opportunities for students and patrons to learn from and collaborate with touring artists.  Through these presentations and activities, Sangamon Auditorium, UIS continues to fulfill its mission of presenting and supporting varied cultural and educational professional arts activities to audiences on campus, in Springfield, Sangamon County, and the surrounding central Illinois areas.
