Lionel Barrymore, brother of the play's star John Barrymore, filled in last minute for an ailing E.J. Ballantine in the role of Petushkov for the final matinee and evening performances on April 5, 1919. Lionel Barrymore was already on hand, rehearsing for The Jest with his brother, which was slated to open at the same theatre a few days later.
