Comments
"Sapho" was condemned as an immoral play and the theatre was closed March 5 1900, by order of the police. It was replaced by "The Second Mrs. Tanquery" (March 6 to March 16, 1900) and "The Profligate (March 17 to March 22, 1900). "The Profligate" closed due to Olga Nethersole's illness. The "Sapho" trial began April 3, 1900; Olga Nethersole was aquitted and "Sapho" reopened on April 7, 1900 for 55 additional performances. "The Profligate" closed due to Olga Nethersole's illness.
