Biography: Norman Joseph Wisdom was born on February 4, 1915 in London, England. He served with the 10th Royal Hussars in England and India. He married Doreen Brett, with whom he had one child. He then married Freda Simpson, with whom he had two children. He appeared in a series of comedy films produced between 1953 and 1966 featuring his Gump character that was often called Norman Pitkin.

Television credits include: "Coronation Street," Last of the Summer Wine," "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson," "Bergerac," "Dalziel and Pascoe," "The Good Old Days," and "The Last Detective."

Trivia:
He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1995 Queen's Birthday Honours List. He became a Knight Bachelor in the 2000 Queen's New Year Honours List.
