Biography: Kyle Jean-Baptiste was born on December 3, 1993 in Brooklyn, New York to Serge Jean-Baptiste and Sonia Jean-Baptiste. He attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the Performing Arts as a vocal major. He then attended Baldwin Wallace University, where Les Misérables casting directors spotted him at the showcase performance. He was the youngest, as well as the first African-American actor to perform the role of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables on Broadway. He was slated to perform in The Color Purple on Broadway in 2015.

Trivia:
He performed in several regional theater productions in Cleveland. He played Enjolras in the Idaho Shakespeare Festival's Les Misérables.
The marquee of the Imperial Theatre on Broadway was dimmed in his honor on September 1, 2015.
