Biography: Eiko Ishioka was born on July 12, 1938 in Tokyo, Japan. She studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. She worked in advertising for Shiseido and opened her own graphic design company in the 1970s. She wrote "Eiko by Eiko" and "Eiko on Stage." She married Nicholas Soultanakis.

Film/TV Credits: Film credits include: "Closet Land," "Bram Stoker's Dracula," "The Cell," "The Fall," "Theresa: The Body of Christ," "Immortals," and "Mirror Mirror." Television credits include: "Das Rheingold" and "Cirque du Soleil: Varekai."

Other Awards: Received a Cannes Film Festival special prize for "artistic contribution" for "Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters" in 1985. Won a Grammy Award for her artwork for Miles Davis' album "Tutu" in 1987. Won an Oscar for Best Costume Design for "Dracula" in 1993.

Trivia:
She was the director of costume design for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
