Joan Ann Holloway Russell was a dancer, singer and actress who was a sparkling presence on the Broadway stage and the television variety shows of the 1950s and 1960s.

She was born in Providence, RI. She had a passion for tap dancing from early childhood, and she and her older sister, Doris, were a well-known song-and-dance team while still in their teenage years.

In 1943, when Joan was 14, she and her sister moved to New York City to pursue careers on Broadway. For 20 years, Joan danced, sang and acted in Broadway shows, including Can-Can in 1954 and a 1956 production of Shangri-la.

She also appeared on "The College Bowl," a television quiz show of the 1950s, on "Paul Whiteman's Goodyear Revue" and in the 1964 film "Diary of a Bachelor." (She performed as Joan Holloway throughout her career). After retiring from stage and screen to raise her children, she became a professional fundraiser for healthcare institutions in New York City.
