Mr. Shelp began in 1946 creating window displays for B. Siegel Co., in Detroit, then packing and shipping hats for Hattie Carnegie in NYC. In 1957, costume designer Irene Sharaff hired him on "Happy Hunting". "Jenny", starring Mary Martin, was the first Broadway show to offer the credit, “Hats by Woody Shelp.” He created hats for more than 140 Broadway shows and scores of films and television productions, including "Follies", "The Great Gatsby", "101 Dalmations", and "A Chorus Line"
